Port St. Lucie Advances Redevelopment with Walton & One Project

Port St. Lucie is taking significant steps toward revitalizing its eastern corridor with the Walton & One project. During a recent visit by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, city officials showcased the 73-acre site located along U.S. 1, emphasizing its potential to become a dynamic mixed-use district.

The Walton & One area is envisioned to feature a blend of restaurants, retail spaces, office buildings, hotels, and residential units. A key component of the plan includes a future United Soccer League stadium, aiming to serve as an economic catalyst for the region.

City leaders are advocating for the designation of Walton & One as a federal Opportunity Zone. This status would attract private investments by offering tax incentives, thereby fostering job creation and economic growth. To facilitate this, the city plans to formally request Governor Ron DeSantis to nominate the area as a new Opportunity Zone.

Mayor Shannon M. Martin expressed optimism about the project’s impact, stating, “Realigning our Opportunity Zone to this strategic area will help us boost local jobs, accelerate redevelopment, and attract investment that will benefit residents throughout the city.”

The redevelopment of Walton & One aligns with Port St. Lucie’s broader objectives of enhancing economic vitality and improving the quality of life for its residents. By transforming underutilized spaces into thriving community hubs, the city aims to create a more vibrant and sustainable urban environment.
